    n4b question

I would like to use my TV as a monitor as well as my PC monitor. I have a x850xtpe with all the required connections. Could someone tell me if this is possible and also wot leads i would need. Downsides to doing this and upsides etc.
A new area for me, so just after some information in a nutshell.

Tv is some 32 inch widescreen, which they left here when i bought the flat

    Thanks all

I hooked my 28" sony to my computer via the standard s-video cable that came with my card... I could only have a maximum resolution of 1024x768 on it, but that was fine for watching films etc on the tv rather than on my 17" monitor...

What connections are there on the tv?

The upside is you can watch stuff / play games from your PC on the TV while using the other screen for normal pc stuff...

Downside is the picture quality etc can be pretty crappy depending on the tv and connection method.

did you not get a svhs cable in the box with your x850xtpe?

    Code:
    _____
    | |
    | ------>
    |____|

does it look like that? the thing with the S?

anyhow, you need a s-vhs cable, assuming you have the right connectors, you can grab one off ebay.

yes street star, with the S before the box, although the arrow starts from the left going through into the middle. I need to check my box, not been in it for a year. Wot does it look like? lol

yeah thats fine, the arrow going in just means 'input' so thats what you want...

as for the cable it looks like:

and the connector on your graphics card should be like the middle one on this card:

If theres not a s-video (aka s-vhs) cable in your gfx card box you can pick them up for not much on ebay, thats what i did

Let me know if you can only get a black and white image over s-video... I had this problem and fixed it quite easily

If u get b/w output u need to link 2 of the pins in the cable together... If memory serves its the pair that are closest. However if you are worried I will check at the weekend when I get home (I have a cable which I have modified with a single copper wire strand wrapped across two of the pins).

http://pinouts.ru/Video/SVideo_pinout.shtml See there for the pinouts and an explanation of svideo...
