Can anyone tell me what causes this and why it wouldnt boot into windows?
The screen has the XP screen (see image) but doesnt seem to go any further
It wont even boot into safe mode.
Is it just the graphics card?

Looks like a possible overheating issue on a wide scale basis of the laptop? I've known for distortion to occur if the graphics card is on a high temperature but that wouldn't explain why you arn't able to boot into safe mode.
and u should get an okay boot from cold. lappies can be a pain to open so if ur not comfortable doin so dont proceed. I would open up the lappy, and check the fans are still functionaing and that non of the heatsinks have come away from the CPU or GPU. Take care and ground urself while workin inside the lappy
I will get them to take it back as its about £2000 worth of laptop..
Hehe I agree. I'm guessing if it was a heat related problem it's probably a fan problem.
On the other hand, laptops are designed to get very hot...so it's possible it could just be some damaged hardware, possibly on the mobo.
