    Question Internet running Insanly SLOW!!

    Hi All,

I run U Torrent on my pc whenever it is running my pc takes about 30 seconds to load up google! regardless of whether ive got comined uploads/Downloads of 2k or 200k ive got a 2 meg connection

ive recently formatted my pc and have never had this problem before but the second you exit u torrent it runs fine!

i can download stuff of the net when the webpages eventually load up really fast its just the pages themselves are taking years to come up! until you exit u torrent

    any suggestion??

    Thanks
    Dave!

Too many connections? Can slow things down to a crawl, no matter how much bandwidth you've got. It's in the options > preferences > bittorrent. The default is 750 (100 per torrent) - try making this much smaller (try 100 global, and say 20 per torrent) just to test. If that speeds things up then you can have a poke around and find a nice balance.

Disable DHT(waste of time tbh and uses far more bandwidth than it's worth), also check the maximum number of connections your router can handle. and set uTorrent to about half that. Also clear out your old torrents, even if they aren't seeding/leeching they create traffic from contacting the tracker and so on. If you have too many old ones it can chew up a lot of bandwidth.

If none of that works download cfos speed, great little program that prioritises internet traffic per program.

this sounds like the 10 concurrent tcp connections problem.

Check your event viewer - normally there will be events in there that are something like - eventid 4226 or similar.

check out http://www.lvllord.de/ for some more information. There is a patch there that will up the level of concurrent connections for you which should make a difference.

I always apply this patch even if i dont get the event log messages, and it always makes a difference.

    Cheers

i have run it on many many many systems. its just easier than doing the registry change yourself.

    I confirm it is safe.

Limit your upload speed to ~10k below max - try 20-24k/sec for your connection - or (as has been said) use cFosSpeed to manage it automajically..
