    SN85G4 USB Crashing/Freezing

I am trying to use my wireless connection to upload some DVDs to a network storage device, but after a few minutes the USB seems to crash and all of my USB ports stop working.

The USB wireless is a netgear WG111 running through a USB hub with it’s own power supply.

Has anyone else ever had this and if so was there a way to fix it?

    My SN85G4 is a v1 without any modifications running a AMD3000+ CPU.

The NAS is a Netgear SC101 connected to a Netgear DG834G ADSL Router.

When I use a wired LAN connection it works fine.

    Cheers

    Ian

Does it always happen on the same time limit. e.g in 4 minutes or near or all happens in different times ?

It is usually within the same kind of timescales i.e. a number of minutes.

It has not been any longer than that when I am doing large tranfers.

It has also just recently crashed when I tried to send an e-mail with a large attachment.

This hasn't happened before, but my broadband was upgraded just recently and therefore I now have a higher upload speed.

This makes it even more important to fix this as it will be unbearable if the USB ports crash everytime I try to send an e-mail with a large attachment.

Have you recently done any bios flashing?. If there is any other bios versions for your motherboard try them. I remember when i had my Socket A motherboard long ago i flashed the bios to a newer bios and started to have problems with my broadband connection dropping out ( usb modem turning off ) , flashed back to previous bios and everything was working fine. In your case i dont know if your system was working fine and problem just started , or your system is new and always had the problem , so perhaps you can roll back to previous bios revision or try a newer bios if its available. Other solutions i can think of usb bus losing power , for this you can try the below , perhaps it might help.

Goto Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager
Scroll down to " Universal Serial Bus Controlers " and expand the list by clicking on the little plus next to it.

Right Click on " USB Root Hub" > Properties > Power Management
Untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power ".

    Hope it helps.
