    WoW Connectivity

World of Warcraft won't connect; it reaches 'authenticating' and then goes no further. If i minimise the game it can somehow connect, but that's not a very useful solution...

    tracert data:

prs-tc-i2-link-telia.net <-- a router from a company called Telia, which IIRC is an ISP or similar, I've heard much bad of them, so it looks like a fault in their network that you'll just have to wait for them to sort.

Whenever I get that issue, I restart my router.

It seems that a part of their network can go screwy occasionally and if that part of the network was handling your IP address, you are stuck going slow (in some cases so slow you never enter the game) until you get a new IP address.

So either restart your router, or if you use a USB ADSL/cable modem do an ipconfig /renew

Telia is one of the providers (if not the only one...) that Blizzard use for connectivity to the servers that host the game. Once you hit a certain point the router is configured not to respond to certain ICMP traffic, so you get timeouts as above. Have you tried the age old Blizzard fix of renaming your WTF and WDB folders?

Looks like a normal tracert to the wow servers to me Telia are a bit 'dodgy' to say the least at times, so I would place the blame there. I had this problem last night - just waited 5 mins and it was back up and running again.

Thing is, the problem is expected; it's been around for a few months now :/

    Hmm..

    Thanks anyway.

What really winds me up is that it connects just fine when I minimise. Kind of hard to play it like that, though :/
