    Unhappy core 2 duo poor porformance

    Hey chaps, I've got an E6400 and I get times when certain things seem to use it all up, for example, at the moment I'm ripping a DVD and my music just went crazily slooowww like some funky effect. I tried setting the ripper to use core 1 and itunes to use core 0 but that didn't make a difference. It also slows down when say installing something of a CD, like a game. There must be something wrong because my AMD 3000 didn't have trouble with these sorts of tasks...

    Cheers.

    I had this problem for quite a while. In the end I just formatted and now all is well again. I don't have a Core 2 Duo though.

    Is your DVD drive running in PIO mode?

    R-click My Computer->Properties->hardware->Device Manager
    Click the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPi controllers. R-click the IDE channel your DVD drive is on, select Properties->Advanced Settings. Check that Transfer Mode is set to 'DMA if available'. If not, set it to that and reboot. If that's set right and the Current Transfer Mode is still PIO, then you need a new drive.

    you dont necessarily need a new drive if its still set to PIO... you just need to reset it in the registry - have a look at my post here or just google it
