Game loading issue
Recently installed Steam and counter strike source, fancied a change of scenery as it were.
Can't get the game to run. Everytime I go to join a game/load a server/run a video stress test it just crashes to desktop everytime with memory exception errors.
I've dropped all video settings to the lowest, I've reinstalled the software from scratched, I've updated my video drivers.
Half life runs fine along with every other game I have installed.
Can anybody help me with this?

I know prob an obvious and expected reply but Steam has loads of updates if you've only just installed it... has steam fully updated?
Is there a place you can check to see what latest Steam version is? Just a thought.

Just checked, its all updated.

try running the Cache scanning thing.
Steam>Games> Right click Counter Strike Source> Properties > "Local Files" tab> "View integrity of game Cache"
If i have any problems like game crashes this sorts it all out :D its worth a try anyway!

Ran it. It restarted my PC twice. 3rd go it completed fine and the exception error still occurs :(
May give up on this, its not worth the hassle

Pretty annoying for you a bet because everything else works but CS:S. Have you typed any error codes you get into a seach engine to see if any results show the same fault as your own PC is having? Could always try a quick email to steam support (if one exists) apart from that you'll prob have to sack it off like you said.

If the cache checking tool crashed it's obivously running into some serious problems with your local data. I would delete all local CSS content (there's an option for this in steam), run scan disk, defrag, then download it again, and defrag again.

I tried steam and there is quite a large article on this particular error with several things to try, ill work my way through that along with your suggestion kalniel.
thanks guys.
