    mouse crash??

    Iv got a problem with a p4 2.8ghz pc. After about 5 mins of use the mouse freezes up and wont be in use again till i re boot.
    So far iv tried changed the memory, which was 256 to differen 512.. re installed xp on it.. Any ideas what might be the cause of this.. The whole computer doesnt freeze, cause i can still operate things with the keeyboard.. thanks in advance for any suggestions

    Is it a wireless/wired mouse. Have you tried a different mice? Also some mice have their own drivers that may need to be installed.

    tried 2 mice one usb and one thrrough normal port. but still does the same. both wired.. no drivers or either.. they both work on my otther computer. could it be my hdd?

    Hmmm - sounds like some sort of conflict - you had a look in device manager?

    Maybe remove any unnessesary hardware to test....

    using both usb and ps2 kind of makes me think its not a conflict. have you gone into safe mode and seen if its ok there?

    no i have not tried that, i will though.. what will it mean if the problem doesnt occur there?

    Has your system clock reset itself at all recently?

    I ask that question as I had a similar problem last week and on a reboot noticed that the windows clock had reset to it's default time.

    I plugged my mouse into a USB port and it has worked fine since and the clock has stayed the correct but I do wonder if my BIOS battery could be winding down... (it is quite an old motherboard).
