Well Its a Philips 42" LCD and it does specifically say in the manual you can connect this way.
It doesnt even show the POST screen wheen you boot up so what ever the problem is its not a resolution issue.
Even tried it on Vista Ultimate last night with the same results.
I hate mysteries.
