    PC Won't Turn on!!!!

Hello, I really need some urgent help with a new PC I am building.

I have got all the components:

    Conroe E6600
    Gigabyte 965P S3
    2GB Corsair XMS2

These are the new components. I was using Venice 3800+, AN8 Ultra and 512mb of PC3200 before, but everything else has remained the same.

When I plug it in, without pressing the power button, all the fans begin to spin for a split seconds (CPU and PSU fan). But then nothing.

I have a Seasonic 430W PSU which was working fine in the PC a few minutes ago.

I really have no idea what to do, I have tried disconnecting all but the essential components.

Nothing appears on screen, the only thing I hear for a split second is the HD turning on and the fans spinning?

    Please could anyone help?

    Is it a broken motherboard?

    Thanks

looking at a picture of the M/B it has the 20(24) pin power connector and another 4 pin power connector is that pluged in?

Just connect the CPU, memory and PSU to the M/B (and any fans) see if that starts.

    Ignore me, I'm an idiot.

I reconnected everything and it is now working.

I think it is because I hadn't pushed the main power into the motherboard completely as I was frightened of breaking it.

    Thanks for the help though.

Heh, easily done. Several connectors in PCs have to be handled with quite a lot more force than you're expecting - RAM always gets me as well (actually the 775 socket also surprised me, had to force the lever down quite hard). Guess it helps it stay in though, as opposed to SATA1 connectors which fall out really easily

May be you're not an idiot - I have built a number of PC's that refuse to boot completely when first assembled. I no longer connect everything before powering up for the first time just the basics – taken to not even putting the M/B in the case before powering up (all those screw to undo before you throw the M/B accross the room when you have tried everything else)
