    Unhappy BIOS Password Protection

    Hi,

I've just inherited a DELL 260 desktop. I want to format the hard drive and load a different os for a project that I'm doing. However, the BIOS is password protected and the CD and floppy drives have been disabled.

Is there any way to remove this password please?

    Thanks

Try removing the battery inside for 5 mins or so and see if it resets to defaults.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your suggestions. Tried the battery out for 15 mins - no joy so left it out overnight - same result.

    Anything else I can try?

    Thanks. GH

Did you make sure to unplug the mains or turn the PSU off?

There should be a jumper that you can use, for a GX260 it's jumper 21 which is between the floppy connector and the main power connector - see here: http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...rd.htm#1111216
