    Extracting audio from DVD movie

For a project I am working on I need to extract some sound clips from various DVD movies and save them in MP3 or WMV format. Is there a program that I could download that will do the job?

well, simple method is something called Sound Capture 1.0

allows you to capture any audio playing through your sound card. you start it recording, play your DVD at the spot you want, and there ya go

got it off soundforge, i think..........

official site is www.magicsofts.com according to the help file, but the link doesn't really help

    very small app.

don't capture the analog in realtime - that's just silly

you can easily extract the VOB from disc, and demux them, using one of a hundred tools.

as directhex said, just extract the vob and demux. You will get an ac3 (depending on dvd sound source) rather than mp3, you can convert to mp3 or wma if you want, but it will degrade the quality

Directhex & pak000 - I like your ideas and can see the advantages but have no idea where to look or what to do. Coul you explain in a little more detail what's required.

    Many thanks

i don't remember specific tools for doing that sort of thing with windows.

under linux, you'd rip the dvd to vob using "vobcopy", then open the vobs in "avidemux", clicking on audio/save

as i said, look on Doom9.org.

http://www.doom9.org/dvddec.htm shows you how to use DVD Decrypter.

    http://www.doom9.org/belight-ac3tomp3.htm convert AC3 to MP3

Basically, what you want to do is open DVDDec and set it to IFO mode (Mode -> IFO). DVDDec should detelct the main movie automatically, or at least it selects the longest one anyway. Go into the Stream Processing tab and check the box at the top. Then de-select all the streams you don't want, which is everything appart from the audio stream. Select Demux from the radio buttons at the bottom.

Then click the DVD > HDD button on the left. This will rip the audio stream from the DVD.

Converting that audio to MP3 is detailed in the guide above, i've never done that, always just ripped a complete DVD including the video. Never used BeSweet either, but it doesn't look hard.
