SPDIF Optical...What is it?

Hi All,

Just wanted to get some info on the use of SPDIF and the variations it comes in. At the moment I have a Creative Audigy 2 sound card and 2.1 digital inspire speakers which are connected via a digital out connector on the backplate of the sound card.

I have heard on many forums about the great sound quality when used with SPDIF. I use my PC a lot for games and dvds and just needed some advice on whether I can improve on my current audio setup with the use of SPDIF??

Short answer: no you won't notice any difference using it

If you are using a digital coaxial connector the sound quality will be the same as the optical. S/PDIF if just the data trasmission format and can go on both copper and optical wires.
