Xbox Live + NTL = MTU Failure?

I've got a friend who is with NTL for his broadband, and is having trouble connecting to Xbox Live. It passes all the checks, inlcluding IP address etc, but fails at the MTU stage.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    Thanks

I used to have XBox live running through an NTL Digibox (bundled up with Digital Television) over a Wireless linksys network (i.e. through a router).

Might just be his network settings are a bit funny. I'm no expert, but apparently MTU is Maximum Transmission Unit, i.e. the largest packet size a connection will accept. Anything larger is broken into smaller fragments, slowing the connection down. Apparently standard PPP (internet) connections have an MTU of 576KB and Ethernet networks 1500KB. If that's gone awry somewhere, perhaps Xbox live is saying his Xbox is trying to connect with a non-default MTU?

Again, not an expert. Google helped me with that one.

I used to play Xbox Live on NTL using a WRT54G router, I even had it working wirelessly with the same router for a while. Didnt have to configure any settings specifically to make it work. About to setup a similar thing on ADSL
