    Question Crash To Desktop

Hi guys, my system has recently developed a peculiar bug.

    System Spec

    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+
    Memory: 1024MB RAM
    Graphics: RADEON X800 XT 256MB

Windows XP SP2, latest catalyst drivers and DX9.0c.

What happens is when I run a game, I can hear the fan on the card speed up as normal and the game starts but after a few seconds I get a system BEEP and the game crashes. Sometimes I'll get a VPU recover message from catalyst other times it sits at the desktop (with full functionallity) then the system shuts down!

The card is running at around 50C which seems about right, I applied some new heatsink compound anyway. Still the problem occurs.

    Anyone have any ideas?

That sounds very much like overheating to me. I recently had a system beep during games (although no crash), I noticed my temps were at melting point and invested in some new heatsinks. No more beeps.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

Turns out I had the metal bar on the back of the heatsink upside down so it wasnt holding the copper close enough to the GPU. What an idiot huh?

Anyway, its working at a cosy 34C now!

    WoW here I come!
