    Bsod.

    Hello,

I've just finished building my girlfriend a new computer, hooray.

Before giving it to her (the computer) I ran Prime95 (13 hours, no errors) and Memtest86+ (15 passes, no errors).

Sunday evening her machine blue-screened, when I asked her what she was doing at the time, she said:

I was editing video content in Windows Movie Maker
Today I'm on her machine and I've just taken a look at the Event Log, the only suspicious entry is this:

    Code:
Faulting application wmplayer.exe, version 11.0.5721.5145, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.2991, fault address 0x00012a5b.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
After seeing this, I asked if she had Windows Media Player open while editing content - she didn't, but she was editing music within Windows Movie Maker.

Now, I may be going out on a limb here, but my best guess would be that Windows Movie Maker uses wmplayer.exe for importing, perhaps even playing audio? She promises she didn't have Windows Media Player open at the time.

So, I know we're at the point now where it seems I've answered my own question, but I'd really like your feedback and your opinions on why her machine blue-screened?

    laze.

what version of moviemaker was it? the one bundled with windows or the upgrade? The original is a massive pile of pap, and would hang my pc all the time, wouldnt be surprised if it was the cause of the bsod

    Hello,

I'm unsure, SP2 is Installed, as well as all critical updates to date.

Does this help answer your question:
    File version: 2.1.4026.0

I think it was v1.6 i had the issues with. Movie maker doesnt spawn a player process on my machine though. Is she likely to have installed any crap on it?/ Is it connected to the internet directly with no firewall, could be malware masquerading as wmp.
