Large... anti-festive problem...

Good friend of mine's having issue.

He was trying to do a clean install of Windows but upon trying to press the famous 'any' key, he found his keyboard along with all of his other USB devices didn't have any power through it and so wasn't responding. However, they'd be fine again once Windows had started.

Not fully understanding the problem at the time I recommended a quick CMOS reset... but now his monitor won't respond and it stays on standby all the time.

Any ideas?

firstly.....for the usb devices to work I'm sure its the lecacy usb devices setting in bios that needs setting for them to work....but as you need to get in to bios first, I sugguest you try resetting the cmos again, or maybe's taking the battery out , replacing after a few mins and see if that helps, then using a normal ps2 keyboard to get in the bios (if cmos resetting worked) to set the option and then saving and swapping it for the usb keyboard.

Another CMOS reset and PS2 keyboard later and it's working, thanks a lot man.

i also have this problem... i have to keep my ps/2 keyboard connected just so i can boot into windows, as i have GRUB with lunux at the top of the list and windows at the bottom.

sadly my default kekboard is USB2 and doesnt respond in the GRUB menus.

thats nothing to do with grub - as at that point no OS is loaded, thats all to do with how the PC works.

I had to set my BIOS to power the USB devices on boot thats how I got my Saitek II to work during boot.

i got it to work now , well i didnt do anything so just seems to work now
