    Icybox problems..

I recently purchased an Icybox hard disk enclosure. It is a firewire/usb enclosure into which i installed a 300 GB Western Digital hard drive. I am having problems with the USB aspect of the device. I plug it into my laptop, and it recognises the USB device but it does not appear in my computer. It appears normally in device manager, but not in my computer or the disk management utlity. I experimented by trying to plug it into my home desktop PC and I had the same issues. Using the enclosure with the firewire port works fine, and the hard drive is recognised and all the data aswell. Having searched for icybox related issues in the forums, I notice that the best way to resolve issues is to upgrade the firmware of the Prolific chipset used in the device, but I am unable to do this as the only way I can update the firmware is through the usb connections! I have tried updating firmware using the firewire connection, but the software supplied won't let me.

Any ideas or solutions would be much apprieciated.
