    Please help installing Windows!

Okay, so here's the deal. I've just put together a new computer - Shuttle SN27P2, X2 5000+, Gig of XMS2 etc. I've been trying to install an OS on it for hours, and finally ended up with XP x64, a place where i don't want to be. Thing is, it wouldn't let me boot XP x86, Media Centre, Vista - none of them. Just came up with "Could not read from CD-Rom, error code 80800279" everytime. It has an nvidia 570 Ultra motherboard, and it's not the cd drive that's at fault because i managed to install x64. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? I'd really appreciate any input you can give,

    Thanks,

    Tim

    What Motherboard are you using?
I don't know if this is a common problem.. But before I updated my Bios, It wouldn't let me Boot with External Cache turned on.

Try to update the Bios, then try again.

what was your first os? did you try to update? did you made a complete format or just the fast on?

if for instance you had installed windows xp 64 the very first time and then you went to install windows xp 32 your setup would not boot, you will have to delete the NTDETECT.COM which lays in systemroot (C:\)

well, the drive originally had windows media centre on it, but i formatted it in the old computer so it was ready for a new install in this one (it was a quick format, is that bad?). I'll try an install a new bios too...please keep the suggestions coming, i can't stand the incompatibility of x64.

    Thanks
