you had the option to take out an extended warrenty - but you didn't. Not got much to gripe about on that one.[/QUOTE]

And is it to much to expect somthing to last more than 12 months these days ????. And the one replaced fraudulantly will only end up in a Land fill somewhere so 1 nill to the punters and tuff luck for the High Street rip store that sold the piece tat in the first place, oh and i'm just crying buckets for old Bill.

Did you buy it on a credit card?

it dosen't matter that its 13months old, it has an expected life span of more than a year, so you'd expect it to work at the moment, this is consumer law, talk to citizens advice/office of fair traiding.

Now your not going to be entitled to a full refund, but you should be to a repair/replacement.

I was poking around the net today at work and spotted this:

"What are my rights under the Sale of Goods Act 1979? This says goods must be of satisfactory quality and ‘fit for the purpose’.

The act makes retailers responsible for faulty goods for up to five years - six in England."

    From this article http://business.scotsman.com/topics....0&id=732322002

Also this on the DTI site seems to suggest that you do have some sort of come back. http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact...page24700.html

Although at the end it does say this:
    • After six months and until the end of the six years, it is for the consumer to prove the lack of conformity.

As an off the shelf pc can be expected to last a lot longer than a year without failure and the 360 is built from (mostly) off the shelf parts, isn't it reasonable to expect one to have a similar lifespan?

You certainly should be able to insist it's repaired as El Gordo and TheAnimus say it's based on what a reasonable life expectancy is for the item.

Although it's probably a daft suggestion now, you have checked all your connections haven't you? I've had a similar issue when one of my cables had worked itself slightly loose.
