Hey all a mate is looking for some help and am not to sure tbh.

So thought id post here.

My mate has just bought this card http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_sp.php?id=278

for his AGP system and he had a query I couldnt help with.

He looked at his Mobo Aperture and its set to 256mb and wont go any higher but as you can see his Gcard has 512mb but he was wondering if the Aperture would affect the performace of his Gcard? and if it does how does he resolve it.

No is the short answer.

Aperture has nothing to do with video card ram, it's how the card maps system ram. You're probably best setting it to 128.

Thanks Kalniel in the end he got hold of the MoBo manufacturer and they told him basically what you have said only to set it to 64.

On another note, a question from me, in doing this, does it affect the system a whole lot or does it not make much difference?

Will make 0 difference at all, especially on a 512mb card which won't be paging out to system ram at all.

what if say for example like my family PC at home the card is on 256?

You cannot say, its always a case of "suck it and see".

The aperture size dictates how much system RAM can be used for storing textures, although it would be a LOT better if they were on the gfx card and not in your system RAM.

Each game/app you run will try and use an amount of textures, if they don't fit on the card, they will overspill into your system RAM.....now no-one knows how much space is needed for each apps texture requirement, therefore no one can say what aperture size YOU need.

Run your apps, fiddle with the size and try again.....has performance gone up, don or stayed the same?
