    Another new PC thread

I know there have been alot of these threads so I'll aplologise straight off but...

I have been away from the UK for three years now and the ASUS laptop I bought at the beginning of that absence now takes around 4 minutes to load photoshop... not great.

Its been around 5 years since I built my last PC. I hoped they hadn't changed that much. They dont seem to have.

I have been researching the latest and greatest for quite a while now and have came up with the below spec... I wanted to go Quad core stright off but the prices are just too high. I can just swap the CPU later on though because they use the same socket (right?!).

The machine will used for a variety of things from gaming to web design to serving media to the tv. It needs to be fairly quiet as it will be in the lounge but it dosn't have to whisper.

Case Antec P180 Silver scan £95.00
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 scan £191.49
CPU cooler Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro scan £17.03

Soundcard Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music scan £58.15
Optical Drive NEC AD 7173A-01 Labelflash Beige 18x DVD±RW scan £22.31
    NEC AD 7173A-01 Labelflash Beige 18x DVD±RW scan £22.31
Keyboard Keysonic 2031UM Aluminum Keyboard scan £14.09
Mouse Raptor Gaming M1 Mouse scan £12.91
Extras Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound scan £2.19

    Monitor Dell 2007wfp 20.1" eBay £284.00
    Monitor Dell 2407WFP 24" eBay £465.00

    Total 20' £1,659.36
    Total 24' £1,840.36

I think it will be worth the extra for the 24".

Please could anyone with any comments, improvements, possible problems etc please speak them here!

    Thanks for your time.

If you are wanting a reliable motherboard, I wouldnt go for any 680i just yet.

I haven't purchased just yet, I am holding off until me or my wife get a job.

Regarding the above comment, I chose the new chipset for the flexibility at gives and I figured more future CPU's will be compatible with it.

I'm sure the current niggles will be sorted soon... hopefully.
