    Unhappy PXE-E61: Media test failure

    Hi everyone.

Just built my 1st PC with brand new components and now got the following message:

    Nvidia boot agent 224.0523
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE MOF: Exiting Nvidia boot agent
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in selected boot device and press a key

I went in the BIOS and set all the boot device sequences possible.
The BIOS detected my CD drive and the SATA hard drive...no problem.
No matter if i set the CD drive or SATA HD or Nvidia boot agent as the first device, I still get that damn message.
I checked the cabled were well plugged in, I unplugged everything. I even replaced some of the power supply cables (of same types obviously).

I hava no idea what i can do next.

Your help would be much appreciated.

Below are some of the new components used:

Samsung DVD Writer SH-S182D is connected as master to the motherboard (MSI K9N NVIDIA nForce 570 - AMD socket).
    HD: Maxtor DiamondMax 10 - 160 GB - 7200 RPM - 8 MB - SATA II
    Processor : AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    Memory Card: OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400
Power Supply: Enermax PC Liberty ELT400AWT 400W

Post full specs of the pc? What is the GFX card?

Can you remove Nvidia Boot agent from the whole boot sequence? If so what happens?

Quick google shows this "In the bios, set the NIC entry to "ON (PXE off)" and remove the option of PXE boot from the boot sequence. Make sure all IDE devices are set to cable select (hard drives, CDROM, CD-RW etc) and that only those devices you have present are set to AUTO in the bios."

its not exacly the same problem here, but it has the same error i would try a few steps there.

Google is pointing towards HDD Falure. Im not sure though, describe your problem a little bit better?

I googled: PXE-E61: Media test failure it has a few leads..

    Night Night.

The GFX is Gainward GeForce 7900GS PCX (256MB)
When i remove Nvidia Boot agent from the whole boot sequence i only get the following:

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert media in selected boot device and press a key

Again I tried to boot 1st with CD drive or SATA but it doesn't change.
Regarding the NIC entry, i am unsure as nothing in the BIOS mentions it.
However i went to "Integrated peripherals"/ Onboard devices configuration and disabled both :
    Onboard MAC LAN 0 controller
    Onboard MAC LAN 1 controller

There is no option to set the IDE devices as cable select.
And those devices cannot be set to Auto neither.
There is an ioapic function which i enabled and disabled although i don't know what is its use.

    Please advise and thanks again

PXE is the network boot protocol, go into the bios and disable network booting/move it to the end of the list

This is a wierd one... All the drives and hdd's are correctly configured and the settings in the BIOS reflect how you have the drives configured.

could it be that both the CD drive and the HDD are dead ?
I hope not...having said that i bought all the components within the same company and had to return the motherboard and a CPU wich were not working.... i can't imagine on top of that that other components are faulty ???

You do have some bootable media in the DVD-drive, haven't you?

Normally if the PC can't detect any bootable media, it will try to all the other possibles - PXE is for booting from a remote image from a network server.

well i put the CD in the drive if it's what u mean. i pluuged in another HDD 5not a SATA one) with the IDE cable and i don't get the error message. it is saying Windows didn't start properly...want to start in safe mode? etc....

I haven't put any OS yet; I got this HDD from the computer of a friend. What do you think ? Now havingsaid that my 1st boot drive option was the CD drive. it should have normally start with that !

Ireally hope that both HDD and CD drive are not f***** up !
thta would mean that i paid a lot of money and got 4 faulty products in the same order !!!!

It's saying that as the OS was installed on another PC, and when Windows tries to start on this PC, it doesn't know what the mass storage devices are, thus having a wobbly.

Windows needs to be installed from scratch in this case (I suppose an install over the top would work, but I can't recommend it at all).
