    Phew, April 2nd.

Means I will soon be willing to start buying music electronically.

Still not sure of the price. Are they going to offer .wav downloads?

I checked the date myself. Great news

Dragging and dropping tracks onto my nano would also be nice.

even if it was aac lossless, the fact of the matter is, for most people, all its going to mean is albums take up more space. How many people have creative players that dont do aac? i dare say 256kbps aac still sounds crap transcoded to mp3. Its a good publicity stunt, but thats about it.

Step in the right direction. A choice of format to buy in and I might stop handing over so much money to HMV.

Is anyone else wondering why we have to 20p to 'upgrade' tunes we already have and pay an extra 20p per track for no DRM and slightly better quality?

Sounds like a great way to make more money to me. Anyone know their reason fo4r the extra charges? I can't that they're justified imo

It's still too expensive when we can buy a CD cheaper and rip it to any format/bitrate we choose. It would also be nice to see another format, such as LAME MP3 (or even lossless), but this is iTunes after all. At least we are going in the right direction. Hopefully other download sites will offer other formats etc.

But it's good progress, and once they see that the music industry won't go down in a ball of flames and could actually help increase sales and sway people away from AllOfMP3 etc, we might see other labels do the same. Although i can't see the likes off Sony Music doing this any time soon.

I think another key factor in this is also that the industry could never agree on a standard open DRM system which would allow any file to be played on any device, yet still retain some copy protection element.

Great news indeed, if only they would sell music in MP3.

I can never see them doing this though - it would allow people to use products other than the iPod, perhaps reducing their sales.

I would love to see a higher quality version available to download though. I can never see them letting you download .wav files, partly because they can't contain any album info or album art.

Instead I'd like to see them sell 128kbps aac and lossless aac, the default download being 128kbps not to confuse the 90% of ipod users that have no idea about bit rates etc. The lossless download would obviously be cd quality, and easily ripped into any format if desired.

Maybe even an option to 'buy a physical copy' - letting you download a CD image of the album that you can burn directly to disc... although you might as well just go to a shop lol.
