Headline :: Xbox 360 'Elite' Confirmed

Engadget have confirmed that a new Xbox 360 called 'Elite' will be released with a 120Gb HDD and an HDMI port. Black in colour, the Elite will be a limited edition costing $479. It will be available for a limited period before Premium edition consoles are modified to come with the 120Gb HDD and HDMI port. Supposedly it runs cooler than current 360's but the presence of a 65nm CPU is not confirmed. The HD DVD drive will not be bundled with Elite nor will it be embedded into the console.

I was initially thinking (if this proves to be true, and available in these parts) that I should shift my 360 now for a reasonable price and wait for this to be released.

But then I saw sense, realised that HDMI doesn't make that much of a difference for me (unless I buy HD-DVD), and that I'm hardly likely to fill 20Gb with game saves.

Damn upgrade fever, it's bad enough with PC's let alone consoles

Was just about to start a thread about this news but saw this... This is by far the strongest bit of news that supposedly confirms this release, yet MS have still said nothing, therefore I am still kind of skeptical. I think it is inevitable that an updated version will come out eventually, but I just want MS to confirm it.

If what the engadget says is true about it being a limited edition then this makes for good marketing by MS as it could well create consumer hysteria to frantically go and by their Elite 360 and not the PS3.

I for sure will buy this if it comes out at a respectable price. if its overinflated in price because its a LE version which it could well be then I might not bother and instead wait for the premium version to be updated as the news would indicate is going to happen.

Well I'm inclined to believe this stuff about the Elite but then I might just be too trusting

    well im suprised

im suprised i havent seen about 8 million people saying " microsoft shafted me " or " i've been done over by bill gates! "

every website that seems to have this story is full of x360 owners crying foul. i dont understand why. componant 1080p does work, you just have to make sure you buy a telly that excepts 1080p though componant, the HDD size upgrade is nice, but at the end of the day the new console does nothing the current one dosent, and im extremely happy with my xbox 360, HDMI or not.

i don't think it matters for the UK market

    why?

120GB is worthless when we don't have access to HD downloads like the yanks

HDMI is worthless when 90% of HD-Ready TV owners get best picture quality via VGA

For me the lack of HDMI and small hard disk are not the biggest weak points of the 360. The heat, noise and dodgy solder issues are. Hopefully they can solve them

Heat problems are supposedly better with this Elite and the solder has probably already been fixed with all the new ones.

I've registered as an American account to try this before, it didn't work. I think they sensed my IP or console serial was european so only gave me access to the euro xbox live features.

I believe IPTV is coming to the UK but we will be last territory as usual. And yeah the XboxLive US account scam was stopped pretty early on.

Either way not having an Xbox 360 at the mo and wanting one I will hang for this.

Same. Probably for the normal premium ones though, rather than a limited edition.
