    Lucky fellow ex students.

Gamestation is no longer any cheaper round me anyway - infact it's often pricier now.

Game will presuambly be new games, gamestation for traded.

    Bah

2 Games and 1 Gamestation (which is at least a fiver cheaper for most games) by me. Bad news. No competition is never good for the consumer.

When game bought Electronics boutique a few years ago They just rebranded the EB stores as game and kept both open in The places I know.

Not sure if the same will happen now after all in liverpool there are 2 games and 2 gamestations so 4 stores might be a bit overkill

mmh - cpl of interesting quotes I pulled off the wire, although I would suggest taking them with a handful of salt:

" The Gamestation name will be retained at the chain's
stores, which offer more pre-owned products than Game stores. "

" ``The Gamestation business is one we have long admired and is complementary to our existing business in terms of both store portfolio and target customer,'' Chairman Peter Lewis said in the statement. ``By investing in both brands we will further enhance the group's retail strategy.''

The other side of the debate is that Gamestation was part of the blockbuster group, so here's wondering how this will affect B/busters games in store...

I was in Gamestation last week when I was at the Galleries Washington. Like mentoned it was a few doors away from Game. Game there however was actually cheaper than Gamestation. Both shops had Guild Wars Nightfall, Gamestation price £29.99 and Game price £19.99. Worked nicely for me.

However also mentioned is the retro stuff in Gamestation. Way better than any other shop locally, they also have a really good back catalogue of older games that have been traded in.

Hopefully Game will keep the Gamestation name alive and run it the same as it is now.

Yeah, but they did close a couple round near mine. In bristol, when Game took over EB, there was about 4 stores in the city centre, two of which where only a few meters apart, so they did close one of them eventually.

TBH, it's been a long time since I've bought any game from a high street shop that isn't one of those cheapy classics games.

Goodbye average service and competition on the high street and hello again to Amazon.

Still a good business model move I suppose, but thats what DSGi is all about. They recently bought our IT reseller and that has gone down to Game standards, ie a load of new 'experts' been brought in.

I aave up on buying stupid 'preowned' games from Gamestation and Game anyway. I think it's a bit of a rip off that they buy peoples used games for a few quid, then just sell them at £5 below retail. No wonder more stores are selling used ones; the markup on used games is immense.

    Ebay FTW.

Yeah it's true, they pay you crap for your games, and sell them at ridiculous prices. Hmmm, shall I buy GoW for full RRP, or pre-owned for a whole £2 cheaper.

Theres a lot of money to be made from pre-owned game sales, but if they want to make that money they should really drop the prices.

    Thumbs down

Gutted about this. GAME have never provided a service for me personally; they never know anything and can never advise you on anything. To me they are the PC WORLD of gaming. Gamestation have always been good for me and most of the people I have dealt with know their stuff; their enthusiasts them selfs instead of just sales whores. A big thumbs down from me- boo hiss. .

Thats all I hope is that the nature of gamestation doesn't change in that they don't become neolithic in their thinking like GAME are.

They'll be staying separate for awhile at least from what I hear, eventually merging the head offices etc.

Stores in blockbusters will be closed as well if my little birdy is correct
