IDF 2007 : Intel's Centrino Santa Rosa blesses desktop

During his keynote, Eric Kim appreciated that the processor architecture similarities for Intel's newest server, desktop and mobile SKUs - all based on the Core (2) microarchitecture, make them, in some cases, attractive for more than one platform.

Our main reservation of such a platform would be one of price; mobile CPUs and accompanying chipsets are often priced significantly higher than their competing desktop counterparts
Very true, but if the mobile market continues to grow as you said in a previous article (50:50 split in sales between mobile and desktop by 2010) then the sheer volume of parts will mean that there is less of a difference in price. Especially if mobile parts are use more and more inside desktop/media systems. Sure, there will probably be some price difference due to higher tolerances in the manufacture and having to be in smaller, more compact packaging etc. But those differences will be less than thsy are at current.
