Usually the quality of upscale will very though, but going on the quality of DVD players in the other consoles, I wouldn't have thought the upscale quality would be that fantastic. Probably around that of the cheap Aldi upscaler. Of course, this is going on pure speculation, given the quality of previous console media players compared to their stand alone counterparts.

I think most people in a financial position to purchase a PS3 would already have said HDTV.

Do I get a sense of PS3 snobbery here?

anyway back on topic for the PS3 owners out there.

I can confirm that the new 1.80 update is better than i thought it would be.

Also reading around different forums it appears that the dvd upscaling is superior to more expensive stand alone dvd players out there.

    1. It up scales standard dvd films very well.

    and

    2. We tried God of war in full 1080p here and it looks amazing - looking forward to trying the rest of my back catalogue of games.

The updated is also supposed to allow Blu-ray to be played in 720p, previously if the set didn't support 1080p it was downscaled to 480p or so I hear.

    Not that I own a PS3 - if only
