    Microsoft to go after Linux with its patents

    With SCO's bungling case against Linux all but failed (along with its NASDAQ listing), Microsoft's decided it'd be better off going for its number 2* enemy itself.

    At the weekend, Microsoft's top lawyer said Linux violated 42 MS patents, with a total of 235 patents violated when also considering open source software used with it.

    Of course, you all remember not so long ago that MS and Novell agreed not to sue each other should something like this come up... interesting.

    The Forbes report has more, or if you can't be bothered to read all that, ZDNet's read it for you.

    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    It seems they may not actively pursue these infringements.
    Filling suit against "open source" might be too big a can of worms...

    Microsoft Won't Sue Linux Users, Company Exec Says

    Just sounds like FUD to me. If they wanted to sue, they would have done so already.

    So, now they want to end Linux cos it's FREE and many people use it? That is purely retarded.

    It just puts doubt and fear in peoples mind, and a company wouldn't want to take the risk of getting sued. Disgusting fear tactics if you ask me.

    Hasn't Microsoft patented 'Software' yet?

    Along with the RIAA's 'Music' patent...

    I read a recent bit in Micromart which talked about it.

    They suggested that Microsoft havent stated what the exact patents being infringed are because these
    patents may actually be found to be someone elses and they will end up in the sloppy brown stuff.

    What a silly statement.
    It depends on what you want a OS to do.
