Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Hmm, thats a bit of a suprise. I cant decide whether the cancel my pre-order with play or not now. Depends on price...
EDIT: According to todays rate the $54.95 Steam are charging is £27.78. My pre-order with play is £24.99 and i actually get something to hold!!
Again, one of the reasons Steam has not been on my PC for a long time.
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Don't forget that you have to add vat as well, so takes it over £30.

Prey was like that too. I don't see how, when there's no physical media involved at all, they can charge more than 'normal' shops do.

prices are set by the publishers. blame 2k for this over-pricing
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Sticking to Play.com here as well.

I realise that, but I just don't see the logic. I'm assuming the publishers would have to pay to have it featured on steam, which is why it's not dirt cheap, but then I'd also assume that people are more likely to impulse buy it from steam, rather than anywhere else.
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Yeah, they are selling it at RRP for the limited edition, just crazy.
Same reason I bought HL2 on DVD - was £5 cheaper than on steam. EP1, was much better, and came with a 10% preload discount, that's how it should be, not MORE than the shelf price!

if the game is sold at both retail and online, generally it costs more online.
why?
because wholesalers will refuse to supply the game if they feel they're being undercut by the publisher (hence retail RRP and online RRP are pretty much the same). this was a large part of the valve-versus-vivendi lawsuits, with vivendi contesting valve's right to sell the game themselves online with their own price point
and whilst online games tend to have a fixed price, retail means a lot of sub-RRP retailers like play.com (for reference, bioshock's much cheaper from shopto.net than play), whilst the online price sticks at RRP.
compare fr'example the steam price ($55) with americanese rrp retailer gamestop ($50) or even UK price comparison (steam £32.51; rrp £35)
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
I ordered the Limited Edition tin from Amazon (£27 with 1st class delivery) and got an extra £10 off for switching my DVD-by-post supplier from LoveFilm to Amazon (same price for each), so £17 delivered for the Ltd Edition tin... much better deal than Steam!
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Hehe I couldn't resist the tin case from Amazon either :D Play.com are good for dispatching to arrive on release date, not sure about Amazon though... would be good to have it by the weekend at least.
RedSky, have a look for the "3 months for free" code for LoveFilm on HotDealsUK, you can use it to reactivate accounts ;)

Hehe, excellent idea, thanks :rockon2:
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
you can order it from SoftUK (for new users) for around £18 if you use the voucher "broadband" (without the quotes).
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
Apparently Bioshock on Steam won't be playable until 9pm on Friday..?!?
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
YEE-HAA my copy turned up today from gameplay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whoot
Re: Bioshock full steam ahead
I'm trying to pre-load it from steam so that I can just enter my code and play it when it arrives in the post but the pre-load link doesn't work :(
