Not according to the Hexus article, which say it's GDDR2. (But other news articles say DDR2, so you could be right - this is just a product for numbers though, not a high performance part).

    edit: and beyond3d think it's gddr3

Yes, I've meant GDDR2, still, it's slow as hell.

    I hope Beyond3D is right

The difference between the 2 is the fact one is DDR3 (Sapphire) and GeCube is DDR2.

Hang on now.. you're now saying that the sapphire one is DDR3 (not GDDR3?)..

    Confusion reigns!

    Hexus say Gecube is GDDR2
    Beyond3d say Gecube is GDDR3
    XBitlabs say Gecube is GDDR2

    Beyond3d say Sapphire is GDDR3
DR says (above) sapphire is DDR3

the G can be dropped as its redundant when we know the memory is on a graphics card.

But GDDR3 and DDR3 are two completely different technologies. Some graphics cards have put non graphics memory on their cards (DDR2 for example) and it's tremendously slower than memory named G-

The question is what market is it aimed at?? Gaming performance isnt going to be stellar. You only need one to play HD movies on our HTPC.

I would imagine the GDDR2 will be on there to keep the costs down.

I thought it was just rated by the mfr's at higher voltage in the spec to allow for higher speeds, a-la overclocking - it is just RAM after all, I don't think there is the volume in the graphics industry to warrant any investment in a different technology compared to the rest of the consumer market.

Quite the opposite I think. Think about how new DDR3 is on the desktop scene, but GDDR3 has been out since the nVidia FX days.
