Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Quote:
As well as being one of the few TV tuners to use a PCIe slot, Compro's E700 can do one unusual trick. It can wake the host PC from the "off" state - that's shut down, not just standby/hibernation - to record scheduled shows, though this only works using Compro's own DTV software.

I always comment whenever Hexus review a Compro product. I must be a fanboy or something.
Anyway, this card is now on my shopping list, to replace my current PCI single tuner Videomate-T300. It'll be my 4th Compro TV card in all, and all of them have been great.
I must agree with Hexus on their comments on the software, as it has its niggles that are quite irritating, but I rarely use their software now. I only ever use it if the european football is being shown on 2 channels simultaneously and I want to watch both. If you're happy to leave your PC in standby mode, then Media Center can wake it up for recording, and will sleep again afterwards. The quality is excellent, and when made into a DVD and played on a normal TV, is indistinguishable from a broadcast.
My only warning is that unless things have changed with the new card, you need a really good signal strength to get it to work well. I have to use a booster most of the time. Otherwise, highly recommended!

Hi Silent Shark.
I had three others tuners hung off the same antenna during testing. There is a masthead amplifier on the roof, supplying four other flats too, though.
The E700 might have an LNA (low-noise amplifier) built in because it's a dual-tuner. But I cannot be sure.
Still, it worked fine for me even in the above conditions. YMMV.
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
thanks for this, I am looking for a change as I am sick of the hauppauge nova-t 500 I have that behaves as a usb device and subsequently does not always wake properly from S3 resume
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
lol frazered,
im doing exactly the same because my hauppauge t 500 jobby keeps on bsoding my pc!
not many low profile dual tuner cards with bda drivers around and this one seems to fit the bill.
Been hearing some horror stories about the pinnacle one too, and the black gold is too expensive.
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner

Horror stories? I had the single tuner Pinnacle card and it was awesome. The tuner is MILES better than the Haupauge one. Its very sensitive - with same signal it found all channels but Hauppauge often lost signals.
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
hi everyone,i boight this card from scan but after searching for channels there was none...i installed it as the manufacturer said on the manual.........dont know whats wrong..can anybody help.
do i need an antenna or what ?
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Yes, if there is no antenna connected then the card cannot search the frequencies and in turn find all the channels.
If you are using an indoor antenna, I would suggest using one thats fixed outside the house for the best signal.

We don't stock antenna's I'm afraid.
Your best connecting it to one thats outside though for the best signal and picture quality.

Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Hi, sorry for digging up an old post, but I received my E700 from Scan on Friday and had a hell of a time with it over the weekend. For some reason, it cannot pick up multiplex 2 that has itv1,itv2,itv3, and channel 4. My freeview box managed it, my £20 avermedia usb tuner managed it, but the £56 compro dual tuner can't. I've tried various settings in the digital tv settings menu, going from universal to specific regions around where I live (oxon), and specific frequency scans, but it can't find them. At times it finds BBC1 and BBC2 twice, but nothing for multiplex 2.
Any ideas or am I better of sending it back and getting a different one?
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Some tuners are more or less sensitive. Example, my Haupauge picked up only 70% of channels that my Pinnacle did. (DVB-T not analogue). These channels you are struggling with might just be ones that the Compro tuner is not good enough to get :(
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Got an RMA number for it. Probably faulty.

Hope so, cos they can always argue that you get a picture on some channels therefore it works. You'll know that Freeview themselves never guarantee U can get all channels!
Re: Compro VideoMate E700 - say hi to a PCIe DVB-T tuner
Anyone know a location where there's a list comparing the sensitivity of several well known tuners?
My Cinergy 2400i DT isn't the best for picking up stations near me. (Well Crystal Palace.) Thought of trying Hauppauge & Pinnacle and BlackGold, but don't want to spend money to face similar issues.
Thanks y'all.
