Linux broke my laptop hinge

When you buy a laptop, you get a warranty for if it breaks. Changing the Operating System on a laptop voids that warranty.
That seems to be the belief of a London PC World store, if the experiences of one man are anything to go by.

Comet got better selection than PC world, and better service. I don't understand how anyone can expect good customer service from PC world when it's the most miserable shop in the world.
Re: Linux broke my laptop hinge
Ah, I was getting confused between Comet and Currys. Currys, of course, is part of DSG just like PC World. :)

I was once in pc world handing in a application form when I noticed there uber sli delux gaming pc hp Extreme 7600GT's. Well out of interest I wanted to have a look at it just to see how stupidly expensive it was and what silly name it had, I moved the mouse to the start bar but!........ it BSOD! hahahahahah. I walked out with a big grin on my face.
I didn't get the job.

Linux doesn't damage hinges. Not yet, anyway.
I dunno... I had OpenSUSE on my laptop for a week and got so frustrated I almost snapped it in half over my knee, that doesn't do the hinges much good ;)

Re: Linux broke my laptop hinge
Oh, micro anvika made it quite clear to me when I bought a laptop that even installing windows XP pro (over XP home) would invalidate my warranty. That was some years ago now.

Hi guys,
This story has been updated to reflect recent developments in this story.
It seems they have trouble all staying on the same page at PCW.

thats the funniest story ive ever read lo l
Re: Linux broke my laptop hinge
Seems pretty clear that the laptop was not of satisfactory quality when sold, within the meaning of the Sale and Supply of Goods Act. That's a breach of an implied term of the contract for sale of the machine. Tikka should probably not waste any more time over trying to get them to fix the laptop; they've had every opportunity to be reasonable about that. Instead, Tikka should probably be demanding refund or replacement, and going the Small Claims route if PCW refuse.
