22years!
Even Bang & Olufsen don't support their equipment past 20 years.
Although it would probably be cheaper to get another on eBay than to send it off for repair
you still have time to get it repaired.
personally, i have always been more of a sega fanboy myself, although its good to know of my n64 does go wrong i can get it repaired i guess, even though it hasn't been used in years.
i never realised that cartridge based consoles could go wrong though... suppose ageing capacitors could be the main problem
Tarnish/corrosion of the connector is a big problem. Also the loading mechanism for the NES has a habit of breaking. Remember, thats the one you slide the cart in, then push the spring loaded holder town to engadge :)
This is only in Japan. The rest of the world had NES support dropped in 2002 IIRC.
