canon printers are particularly badly supported under linux - search for your printer on OpenPrinting - The Linux Foundation

as long as you don't need a closed-source (i386-only) driver, then you should be able to use it

as for the contents of YDL, i'm afraid i don't know - especially YDL6

Re: Running Linux on the PS3 - A detailed view of what's out there

    Question:

Was this article interesting? openSUSE 11.0 is now out, which means there are major updates to all three of the distributions tested. It's an interesting enough topic that I *personally* think it's worth updating on occasion, but do you lot agree? Would you read a mid-2008 update?

Before I hear it, no, Fedora is still disqualified - they document their failing a bit better now, but I still require a single disc which works in a stock PS3 to be considered "ready for use"

    Yup, I'd love an update

As someone who is rapidly using Linux more day by day (and is the only OS on my laptop now!)...I've got the bug

I'd imagine the PS3 has huge potential at its feet - it'll be interesting to see if its being taken seriously by the big distro makers

Yep, I want an update... I'm especially keen to see how WHS gets on on my PS3...

Re: Running Linux on the PS3 - A detailed view of what's out there

well, given the whole "not x86" thing, it won't do much *ON* a ps3. with a ps3 is a different matter

making a hackintosh... possible, but i don't think it's been done

Its in no way x86 only mate. Since the dawn of NT its been very much cross platform.

a Portable Executable gives a clue about how one program can target all the platforms back in the dark days of 1992, when microsoft shamelessly ripped off the COFF and packed it with the extra goodness.

PS3 Slim removes the option to run Linux.

Looks like Sony have done something the same again.
