Re: Apple iPhone comes to UK today

The iPhone has quite simply priced itself out of the market. A £35 a month contract I can understand, but to tack on another £269 in handset costs is crazy when the Nokia N95 (a compariable or superior handset) can be got on a similar contract for next to nothing.

I'd echo most of the above too, it looks really cool and I know I'd have fun playing with the interface but it's just not accessible to me. Firstly, I'm on Orange. I've been with them for a while and I could upgrade to the HTC TYTN II for next to nothing. There's just about no chance I'd switch to O2 and pay out that kinda money for an iPhone.

Tip to tech companies - Don't launch your new product in the UK in November. It's bound to rain and make everything look a bit dull.

Re: Apple iPhone comes to UK today

People will buy it because its an Apple product. /end

it doesnt matter that its got half of the features that it should have to be technically competetive and that there are better phones out there.

... the snow boarding IT server type people will restart the website at 6 ... it will take 2 minutes to restart ...

and after that another 2 seconds to crash

rant: I absolutely astounds me how much free publicity Apple have got on the news no one batted an eyelid when Nokia launched the N95 - BBC news 24 have mentioned it and I bet it will be on the BBC1 and ITV news programs tonight - but why? (Hollywood and films on the news what's that all about!)

Anyway rant over if you buy one hope you enjoy it. I must admit I've used the internet on a iphone and it wasn't too bad - but no so great that I'd buy one.

Re: Apple iPhone comes to UK today

Yes it's quite a sexy device, but I can't stand the way apple allow only one provider and prohibit third party software.

The company does make some stunning stuff, and I like how it usually just works. But they now have this strange status because of the iPod and some white coloured computers... They are not good at allowing customers choice (e.g. iTunes DRM, iTunes itself, third party software, phone provider etc).

Plus they make some incredible margins on pretty looking products that are technically average.

I am considering the Nokia N95 8GB model, which is said to have ironed out some of the first generation version's bugs and issues.

Re: Apple iPhone comes to UK today

Ugh no thanks, overpriced shiney apple tat. Gimme an N95 or latest Sony Ericsson. Which with most contracts you can get free.

Also I text without looking at the phone usually, impossible with a touchscreen.
