Has anybody ever gone to jail for disclosing information about a processor?

Sounds like its a software under/overclocking facility

They had drivers for Althon64 CPUs too, was never sure what they actually did.

From that description it sounds like it's to enable features like cool 'n quiet, to downclock the processor when not under load.

Generally, these drivers enabled support for idle down sleep states. There are other patches AMD has released too which fix some timing issues within their multicore implementation.

Intel generally 'patches' their processors through microcode in the BIOS... recently they allowed it to be done with a OS/software patch as I recall.

AMD has been in lockdown mode over the past year or so... they have tightened up their NDA practices and how information about them is released.

Not sure about the above rumor, but this appears to be the new AMD.

Its a contractual obligation so AMD's might sue for breach of contract with a probable remedy of financial damages. Not criminal so no Jail!
