If facebook is free, then why are these companys investing so much money in it?
Im starting to wonder about leaving so much of my personal information on there network.

Because when you look at someone like google, how much their worth from advertising alone. Google has to build complex maps of what add someone should see, based on the search string, previous search strings etc.
Facebook has a large selection of ABC1s or what ever the hell they're called, the most profitable advertising group, young stupid people with money. And as a true member of that group i'm all too happy to go out and buy something with the vain hope of making my life better. But they can work out what I like, my friends like, my postcode likes etc. You tell facebook everything they need to know.
