Because when you look at someone like google, how much their worth from advertising alone. Google has to build complex maps of what add someone should see, based on the search string, previous search strings etc.

Facebook has a large selection of ABC1s or what ever the hell they're called, the most profitable advertising group, young stupid people with money. And as a true member of that group i'm all too happy to go out and buy something with the vain hope of making my life better. But they can work out what I like, my friends like, my postcode likes etc. You tell facebook everything they need to know.

I'm nearly in the "mid-30's no dough in pocket no longer living at my parents" group

Quite disturbing to think that all our info is stored and is pretty much collateral in this internet based world we all seem to live in.
