So then, I've just had the update. Doesn't feel all that different just yet.

The update process itself was smooth and I've just been nosying around Steven's friend list...as you do.

What features is everyone liking or disliking so far? I was hoping for more screensaver options myself but there don't seem to be any. I was also under the impression that you'd be able to filter the marketplace for 'free stuff' but I can't find the option for that either? I do like my freebies.

I'm just excited about finally being able to upgrade my account to an 'Adult' one and change the email address associated with my account because my current one doesn't even exist any more!

it's always been the case IME that the 360 only supports accessing media from a Windows Media Connect (UPnP) server, not a Windows File Sharing (CIFS) server. I'm not aware of any NAS boxes with UPnP support, they all do CIFS though

Nah, Hex is right, you need a machine running either Windows Connect or Media Player 11.

My excuse is my brain stopped working for a second

the annoyance is, UPnP is a spec that MS designed. but the 360 will ignore any UPnP server that doesn't identify itself as being Windows Media Connect, defeating the object of making a spec in the first place

the 360 is a poor media machine. the ps3 is better behaved, and will be getting mpeg4 part 2 support soon.

if your nas box is linux based and remotely hackable (e.g. a linksys nslu2), you could run a upnp server on it and be sorted
