Good tips. Every year I think about getting fitter and I was say that by the next Christmas I'll have a six pack like Peter Andre did in the old days, but every year it's just too much fun to eat and sit on my backside playing games.

Can I retract that statement? Playing games is hard work.

How much water does everyone drink a day?

On average I drink about 2 litres at work - but also polish a pint of milk too

This is really bad, but all I drink in a day is two cups of coffee. I never have water. I really need to sort it out.

Re: 10 Healthy New Year's Resolutions

I'm sad enough to know that my resting heart rate is 45, my VO2 max is around 60 (ml/kg/min), and my lactate threshold is 172bpm.

I still drink too much alcohol, eat bad food, snack a lot, and don't get enough sleep, though. Need to sort that stuff out.

Re: 10 Healthy New Year's Resolutions

I find when I'm at home I don't drink as much water as I should - it's too easy to get distracted by a warm cup of tea!

When I'm at the gym though, I go through loads of water. Do an exercise, glass of water, do an exercise, glass of water...etc etc.

Well done moogle, a shining example right there!

Proud to be a part of a place that values it's members health

In 2006-2007 I halved my achohol intake.

Roll on my future health.....shame that playing FEAR and flying IL-2 1946 raised my blood pressure

Re: 10 Healthy New Year's Resolutions

Exercise is probably the biggest issue for most people here, I'd wager. Modern jobs tend to have you sitting at a desk or in the car all day, rather than keeping active.

A simple suggestion I've always loved and try to follow is to go for a walk on a lunch break. There is debate over how much difference walking makes to your overall health, but it is an excellent start and helps to get you in the spirit of things. If you've an hour break, that's plenty of time for a twenty minute stroll to a park, twenty minutes of nature, sunshine, fresh air and healthy eating, and then twenty minutes to get back. I've found I'm far less stressed afterwards, too, and so able to work better!

Now, Hexus being Hexus, a fair few people here are probably game junkies and keen on things such as "media centres" Even if you're not, dance mat games are an excellent means to keep motivated and interested! I used to play regularly on arcade installations of DDR, and ever since I moved away from them, I've gained a lot of weight They are without a doubt the perfect activity for a gamer, as it does not seem like exercise at all! But a warning - it's inevitable that you end up looking quite camp doing it

The water thing is made of love and win. The hardest thing is to find a means to carry the water with you at all times, and then a bag that will not just collapse after regular use for this purpose!

When it comes to eating less more regularly, use smaller dishes. Any that just will not fit can be served up onto a spare plate and kept for later. Plus, smaller plates and bowls make the food look bigger!

Finally, we come to the mater of the GP. I've noticed a difference here between my female and male friends. The blokes just get an appointment, whereas the women tend to ask for specific doctors, after typically having tried them all. If you don't like your GP, remember that there are normally several doctors within each practice, and the receptionists are normally happy to allow you to book an appointment with a specific doctor.

Some good tips there Rosaline, thanks!

Out of interest, how much fruit and veg do you guys and girls generally consume? Is anybody else doing the 5 a day plan?

    having a juicer helps!
Carrot and Apple juice isn't as bad as it sounds. I have quite a bit of fruit when theres clementines about. Apart from that it's the usual apples.
