sigh, not a good move, imo, the cost of shipping the dell systems to the store's will ramp up the cost in general...
and the tech suport at my local currys is pants tbh, you'd get better tech support from an amoeba, taking into acount it cant talk, or do anything....
mindya, more pc's for the general masses cant be that bad'a thing, and dell's are better made than some *cough* acer, HP, Compaq */cough*
This cant be a good thing.

Time will tell I guess.
I see this from both perspectives though. I've always thought that with Dell being an online retailer only, it'll lead to cheaper systems for the consumer.
However, my partner's parents are after a new laptop and they just don't feel comfortable buying online. They want to get one from a store so they can go in and get peace of mind when they need it. Sometimes hard to believe at times but there are still so many people who have that as a requirement, and rightfully so.
I do think it'll be a good thing to see Dell systems come to the likes of PC World, I wonder if we'll see different pricing options for high street and online equivalents of the same system?
hehehe, I knew that was coming! You know what I mean though

Good thing IMHO. Might force some of the random brand stuff that appears in the stores to up their game.
There was a Dell shop near me before which always confused me. Did look like a front for drugs though...
This isn't a good move for businesses, it's already getting harder and harder to get decent prices out of Dell for business purchases because they keep jacking up the price to keep their resellers happy.
Guess I'll be taking another look at HP desktop systems from our external support company next batch of purchasing or maybe even a very large purchase from Scan![]()
I know the whole ethos of dell has been to ship directly to the customer and cut out the middleman, but surely if they had done it right they could have stores like apple, however their systems aren't half as attractive lol.

Most certainly. Dell already do that sort of thing anyway - the price of a machine you see in one magazine will be different to another, or a website, or whatever, and they just differentiate via the eValue code or something. There's a good website (Dell Special Offers, Cheapest Deals, E-Value Codes and Discount Coupons | dmXdimension) that finds the lowest possible price for Dell stuff and gives you the direct links, which is very handy. Managed to get my Mum an amazingly good-value PC for £350 through that, with a 20" widescreen LCD included.
Perhaps it might lead to a better deal for the customers, only time will tell.

will they be selling dell's monitors too? please please please sell the moitors too![]()
if this is the case, it will make it harder for us (IT companies) to resell their products as a lot of people just go to PC world now, however it will be interesting to see how the warranty side is handled.
We sell everything with 3yrs NBD and when it's been needed, it's been worth the extra.
