I concur with the review - it really is one of the best one-player games I've played for quite some time. Exceptional.

I've just got all of mario's stars and its by far the best game I've played in a long long time. When I heard you had to shake the controller around abit and point it at the screen I was a bit worried it would make it seem a bit fiddly, but it really isn't at all.

They've done an amazing job with the graphics too, top effort.

I don't get it. It's a very good platforming game, but it's just a platforming game. I could never see myself giving it more than 88-89% in a review. Well worth the money, because it's a very good game, but I preferred RE4.

Those two quotes sum up the state of the gaming industry at the moment. What's the problem with it being "just a platforming game"??? Some of the all time greatest games (which now include SMG) are platformers. Unfortunately, the rise of the FPS games, racing games and games like GTA and Resi have stamped all over the platformer genre, which is a massive shame. For me, platform games are the beating heart of gaming through time. I bet the majority of people who bought SMG and believe it to be an all-time great are those in their 20's / 30's who grew-up in the platforming heyday. On the other hand, plenty of teenagers are going to be getting SMG for galaxy but they'll think it sucks, put it on ebay and go and play some Halo 3.

Re: Review :: Super Mario Galaxy - Wii

Resident Evil 4 is the second Resi game I've played (the first being Resi 1 on the Saturn, which I didn't like). I've not really liked Mario games in general, although I did really enjoy Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Lands 1 & 2 (holy crap, I spent hours and hours in Super Mario Land 2). And I'm 26 and grew up in the platforming heyday.

Walking around and jumping around... they've made it more fun than ever before, but it's still just walking around and jumping around. I hardly think myself typical of the gaming industry, either - I can't believe BioShock is getting so many awards when System Shock 2 is a much better game. And I'm surprised I enjoyed RE4 so much (running around and shooting around).

So go ahead and have another go at me for giving it an 89% review score. I'm hard pushed to name better games that came out this year - it's certainly in my Top 5 for 2007, if not Top 3. But I guess that's not good enough for you?
