if you have and amp that can do pcm audio over hdmi you connect using hdmi and then you can listen to uncompressed hd audio which is awesomeJust make sure - in the HDMI audio selection - you select 'BITSTREAM' as your method of output. Even set at this selection, when LPCM for instance, is chosen from the menu of a particular BD, the PS3 will output the full, uncompressed 5.1/7.1 audio track via HDMI
If not then you can use an audio cable to your amp and tell the ps3 you are using optical for audio you will get 5.1 dolby digital and dts but it wont be uncompressed.
if you connect like this you will get dolby digital 5.1 up to 640kb and dts upto 1.5mb. Both are better sounding the standard dvds.
DTS-MA is pretty much DTS's equivalent to Dolby's TrueHD. In that it is lossless.
Blu-ray Disc dts-HD Master Audio Lossless up to 8 Channels
96kHz up to 25.4Mbit/s
