Disney's The Princess and the Frog to spark return of 2D?

I've always loved Disney's 2D animations, The Lion King and Aladdin are up there among my favourite movies, but 2D has recently become a thing of the past. Disney hope to get back to do what they do best with 2009's The Princess and the Frog.

I watched Beauty and the Beast at Christmas with my (not so little, she's 16) cousin, and I have to say, it's still a good film. And you are right, there is something special about Disney 2D animation..... as long as they get the story and songs right that is. Disney have produced some utter rubbish too.

Yes but other than that one ball room scene, it is a 2D film. Poeple don't classify it as a 3D animation.

Anyway, had we watched Aladin or something instead, i would have used that as an example

You'd have to admit though, dodgy sequels and other lacklustre efforts aside, when Disney get stuck into a 2D animation, it's usually awesome.

I remember when I saw The Lion King at the cinema, all kinds of awesome!

Re: Disney's The Princess and the Frog to spark return of 2D?

A few of us did have a similar discussion on Christmas Eve. The conclusion was that disney haven't done a decent animated film since The Lion King, even then some were saying they thought it was distinctly below par compaired to previous releases.

Re: Disney's The Princess and the Frog to spark return of 2D?

tough one. Other than BATB it's been a few years since i watched any.

Fantasia was always a favourite though.

(and yes I'm aware that this conversation is a little odd for a 27 year old heterosexual male )

Oh well, 25 year old heterosexual male here. I blame it on growing up with an older sister.

I'd probably put The Lion King as my favourite, I just love all the characters, particularly Rafiki! Closely followed by Aladdin I think.

Re: Disney's The Princess and the Frog to spark return of 2D?

My brother is 3 years older than me (also straight) and used ot have all the Disney films on video. Not sure if he has replaced them with DVD, but i know he does have some that are worth a bit of money now as the initial DVD releases were limted to 6 months or so.

Aladin was really good. Lion King never really struck me as being a great film.

I don't think the trend ended with "The Lion King". "Pocahontas", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "Hercules", "Mulan", and "Tarzan" were very strong for Disney too. 1989-1999 was an amazing time for them, I hope "The Princess and the Frog" can live up to any of those titles.

I remember when I saw the trailer for Enchanted, I got all excited by the animation and thought that was the return to Disney animations, wasn't the case though.

The Lion King is a great film (as is Aladdin). Pocahontas, Hercules and most of the others that came after had their good bits, but weren't quite in the same league. Good to hear they are planning a return to the musical score too, as they have made some fantastic songs in the past.

Tarzan was OK, the others I never saw, thought they looked rubbish
