am i the only one who thinks it looks kinda ugly?
It just reaks of that sort of new money type. Would look great in a 350k studio flat in docklands. (right on the approach of city airport).

Ditch the speakers and provide a functional stand and I might consider one, until then I'll stick with the 2407 HC.
I really hate built in speakers monitors.
I don't know. I reckon they should keep the price artificially high to create a "want" for it. (See here: First sentence.) I would have been inclined to price it at $3000 (or £1500), and put it down to around $2500 (or £1250) through un-official channels only (i.e. not Dell's main site) upon launch. It's a product that can't be "copied", and as another poster said it's a "status symbol".
By selling someone a unique product for a higher price, say $3000 here, product owners can invite their friends into their study, who'll say, "Wow! You've got the _ _ _ _ _. They're well expensive!" (& even if your friends don't say this, you know they'll be thinking it.) A higher price builds appreciation for something - or artificial demand.
However, I agree unreservedly with you on the 1080p "support". (i.e. screen resolution of, and inputs able to "produce", 1920x1080.) I think it does have DisplayPort, but don't quote me. (See the direct2dell blog, from above.)
minus the speakers it wud be even nicer.
unfortunately, i don't like the glass surrond. some hdtvs have the glass edges but not for the whole surrond
