I had no idea they were the same company. This is a good move for them, the Panasonic brand is strong wheras Matsu****a is less so
I remember owning a Matsu****a portable tv which to be honest, lived up to its name.
Panasonic and Matsu****a have been one and the same for years.
All the plants around the world have Matsu****a in their name and have done for as long as i can remember.
In the 90's i was a sub contract electronics engineer in South Wales at Panasonic......the site was called Panasonic KME.

You don't pronounce it Matsu****a. It's Matsooshta... Too late to be correcting everyone though

I always thought it was Matsoosheeta, but there you go. Panasonic is easier for everyone
They make quite bad laptop optical drives. Are they likely to improve if they were called Panasonic ? Probably not - but they will have more to lose.
