Feature :: The best videogames of 2007

What a year it’s been for videogames; the best year ever some are saying. We’re inclined to agree as it took us ages to narrow our list down of the year’s best games to just eleven titles. Did your favourite game make our top ten?

Ah, I forgot one important game! Adding it now - so that will be 11 games then. Call of Duty 4 added!

    smooth...

If someone had told me there would be two exclusive PS3 titles in this list this time last year i would of just had a good laugh.

But it has to be said uncharted is a truely great game, and would probably be my favourate of the year.

I have to agree with Uncharted as being my fav of the year as well (followed closely by Gran Turismo 5 - Prologue)

Glad also that Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is in there as well - a great game

Halo3 not making the full list is a joke. It was the biggest release this year, the biggest release of any year, and the best multiplayer game on any console this year.

Its also one of the most complete games, as a package, that I've ever played. The Forge alone makes it worthy of a place.

Apart from Galaxy, it deserves its place above all others. And certainly on any list that Drakes Fortune and Lego Star Wars makes.

I haven't played multiplayer so cant comment. But the single player side of halo3 was very average. Really uninspiring stuff.

Re: Feature :: The best videogames of 2007

Yeah, but thats like saying 'I haven't played Mario Galaxy, but I read the manual.. looked pretty boring'

Halo3 IS multiplayer, so having not played it, you are not in the best position to tell anyone how good it was.

Anyway I'm not trying to convince you that Halo3 is a great game, I'm saying its strange that Halo, multiplayer giant, intense, action packed, and tons of fun online, with the replay modes, the Forge, the Bungie.net support, the amazing sound track, and so much to do it makes your head spin, doesn't make it, but, erm, Lego Star Wars on the DS does.

Halo3 as a mutliplayer game, will eat your life. And the lives of many, many other people around the globe. Lego Star Wars is fun. Nothing more than that. Fun game.

    Riiiight....

Re: Feature :: The best videogames of 2007

I've played Halo 3 coop (legendary) and it's tremendous fun - I thought that's what gaming was supposed to be about?

I was surprised not to see any mention of Supreme Commander or World in Conflict but then it's all down to personal choice I guess. In any case, it's been a pretty darn good year for gaming, and it's great to see the PC being supported with decent titles.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

0iD: Plus weeing in it every now & again does it good
scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

Re: Feature :: The best videogames of 2007

hehe, I hear the Princess has been kidnapped... who saw that coming?

You can argue all day how good Halo3 was \ wasn't, but its the most important release this year, and you can't not included it on a Best of list. You certainly can't stick it in the bit of 'also ran' text at the start of an article (well you can, he did ), unless you either didn't play or didn't get it.

Its also bloody brilliant online as well, which is sort of the point.

Anyway, taraa 2007, roll on 2008. I'll have a nice, fresh copy of Burnout Paradise plz.

Halo 3 is very average as most people have said - no way would i have expected to see it in the top games for this year.

i think the zero punctuation review told it as it is, I'd assume you have seen it though.
here's a link just in case (The Escapist : Zero Punctuation: Halo 3)
I fail to see how anything that funny can be wrong. (and yes i have played halo 3 extensively )

Re: Feature :: The best videogames of 2007

Stewart, i think the cranking has broken you.

None of the Halo games are particularly good. Compare Halo 1 to something thats out on the PC, its not new, its not graphically better. It did nothing new (enless you only owned an X-box) but it was polished. Halo 2 was just more of the same, think Blue Shift for half-life, that game that should of been a free mod that they charged the ignorant hords (like me) for, who all completed it in about 3 hours.

Halo 3 deserves mention in the games world the same way titanic does in the film world. It grossed well, and had some who really loved it.

But are you saying its honestly better than TF2? The story and gameplay isn't a hoot and a howler like Drakes Fortune (okay, bit odd here with the multi-vrs-single apples-vrs-oranges but you get where i'm going).

Either that or your just taking the mic.... i can't help but feal you are now, and my post will look as stupid as the person i lampooned earlyer today on this very forum.
