So the new version wont meet their promise of a $200 laptop either? Oh well, looks like a big improvement though if the screen is being improved.
One to watch out for! Minus the slightly cramped keyboard, the 701 has received rave reviews.

The only thing id say is annoying is the screen is too small, but i'll forgive it when my 7" touchscreen overlay arrives .
NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, GBA, DS, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3 60gb, XBOX, XBOX 360, Master System, Game Gear, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine, Neo Geo CD
I don't care about the WiMax but if they do this and keep to their current price point I think I'll have to get one.
Hopefully there is still enough space to get some mods in
So the price will be around £200 for a larger screen and hopefully the same or better spec than the current ones - I want one now!Intriguingly, it's claimed Asus is looking to match the price of the current model with the new one, presumably because it's worked out the slightly higher cost of the screen can be more than balanced by higher Eee sales.
Woohoo now Assistant Manager!
Nice - I wonder if they can improve the battery life further somehow. I believe that the new CPU will use less power, but the larger screen probably drains more.
I don't see the battery life going up much, if at all.
There's always the 6cell pack if you find yourself needing more power.
Just seen a place taking pre-orders for around £60, not really worth it for few extra hours to me.. $60 maybe.
the only down side to the eee pc is storage space, if it had around 32gb i would seriously consider it
I had an EEE delivered on launch day, having waited eagerly for it to be released, only to be really disappointed: I found the pitch of the fan noise very distracting (I seem to have unreasonable trouble with certain frequencies). The little fellow went back the next day.
If v2 fixes this problem-intentionally or unintentionally-then I will be very happy to give it another try: particularly with a bigger screen! I'd also be very interested to find out what happened to the 10" version.
That is actually very easy to get around with flash drives; although a 32Gb drive costs almost as much as the EEE! In fact, people have modded theirs to accept these flash drives internally.

I will also be very interested in a bigger screen. I think I read a rumour of an 8.9" screen doing 1024x600, but am not sure where that was.
have they shown it yet?
edit: it appears not

First shots of the 8" model. Hopefully the production models will have higher res screens otherwise its not much improvement really..
Either way ill be waiting on the 8.9
a guy in work has just got his eeepc, and it is a very impressive bit of kit.
but i will wait for the 8.9" version because i want a 1024x600 screen.
the silverthorne CPU based platform would be nice too.
that will be ace, provided asus doesn't restrict the 8.9" version to windows because of the silly wimax business.
give me 1024x600 and a linux OS please.
