    EU taking the fight to Microsoft once again

    You've either got to admire the EU for its never ending battle with Microsoft, or you've got to feel sorry for the software giant that lives its life in EU courts. Either way, Microsoft is now facing two new investigations.

    I don't see anything stopping a vendor shipping Firefox/Opera/some other browser with a PC.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Re: EU taking the fight to Microsoft once again

    The EU is full of ****wits who have no understanding of things IT related.

    Microsoft is simply being singled out because they're successful. I never understood XP-N. Why the hell would I want to buy a version of an OS that needs additional crap downloaded just so it can do the most basic of tasks.

    It's hypocritical that the EU pings Microsoft for it's practices yet allows Apple to have a totally closed platform for their Mac's.

    Opera have just seen that it's an easy way to earn a lot of money. Simple as that.

    I do agree with you 306maxi, but dont you think its a successful business move?!

    on the other hand, you need to download codecs to watch movie files, by your viewing all this should be shipped with windows too? what about the small guys? they all out of jobs, microsoft takes over all things IT then charges outrageous amounts for it so nobody can afford it; and due to the lack of competition they end up having ****e customer support, not caring if anythign is compatible or not. You'll buy a graphics card from nvidia, and need a microsoft adapter to make it compatible with your microsoft computer!!! is that a world you want to live in?

    what microsoft adapter, you just download the nvidia drivers.
    I agree with maxi too, the EU is just a bunch of twits when it comes to pc stuff. Sure make IE uninstallable but not having the browser to start with is stupid?

    As for media players, why the hell would I want realplayer with its ads and having to pay for it to remove the ads and quicktime with its ****ty itunes services running 24/7 when I can just have windows media player. And media player classic and real player alternative and quicktime alternative. its not microsoft making users not use their products. its just that there are better options out there. stupid just stupid. codecs you just go download a good codec pack on the internet and your done. microsoft don't need to include it but if they did would be nice.

    outrageous amounts, okay vista ultimate is alot but get a oem, or get a lower version. you probably dont even use the features you miss in the lower versions. if its so expensive how comes the little guys are out of business then? it has more features. its just like tescos vs the small shops. tescos offer cheaper prices and the shops offer higher prices then they complain, oh we dont get any customers we hate you tesco! well start selling at lower prices then! just really really stupid. If I were microsoft and had no assets in the eu I'd tell them where to stick that lawsuit.

    Re: EU taking the fight to Microsoft once again

    I also agree with 306maxi.

    The EU is after Microsoft since they are the big boys yet they do nothing when:

    1. You have to use Apples iTunes to buy music and put it on your ipod. I know you can use Winamp to put music on an ipod but the fact is this is no different to installing another browser.

    2. Mac OSX ships with Safari as its default browser, where is the EU in forcing apple to ship IE

    3. Max OSX ships with its own media player, again not force is being applied to ship Media player

    4. Linux is the same

    Re: EU taking the fight to Microsoft once again

    It's not so much the constant lawsuits that irritate me, but that the ruling seems to be "you can't ship your own program but it's perfectly acceptable to ship somebody elses". Surely that would just mean they're unfairly supporting Firefox, or Opera?

    Incidentally, the day Windows comes pre-loaded with Quicktime or Real Player is the day I stop using Windows. I consider those full justification for a re-format.

    Re: EU taking the fight to Microsoft once again

    Why did the EU not do anything about Adobe buying Macromedia & becoming a monopoly on quality creative software.
    Lack of competition has enabled Adobe to have steeper prices in europe than in USA since their takeover.
    There are rumours that apple are gonna takeover adobe.
    In that case I hope EU do their job properly and stop apple from taking over all adobe applications & becoming the only provider of quality creative tools.
