low-cast eh? is this some form of appartide friendly notebook?
These cut down laptops running linux could be quite an intresting one, first off the distro's are been tayloured too them, most of the problems with linux stem from its truely aborhant stance on hardware support, when i made a simple USB input device, it took about 2 hours to make my windows driver, installer, etc, but on linux it took me 3 days. This is why i hate that gawd awful OS.
But, if they have set up everything you could want, made sure the major show stopping bugs are worked out, and sell enough of them to pay for this developer time, in an effecient manner (ie less than buying a commercial OS) so its useable and stable this could be quite good. People won't be expecting to game on it anyway.

It's a nice niche market for linux - effectively these things are just browsing devices and so people don't care about the OS so long as it's setup reasonably well. I don't mind it on the eee too much but i'm inherently a bloke who likes to fiddle around and inevitably linux is always about the oh-so-friendly command line when you want to do anything remotely complex. I have to admit, i'm going to try XP on it as a result.. Does that make me a bad person?
Is it just me or would anyone else be a bit wary of a gigabyte based notebook?
Maybe it's my long running dislike of their hardware. I dunno.
Gigabyte's hardware isn't bad at all.
Intel have a long relationship with them, back in my PIII days i had an intel board die at about 9 months old. Intel sent me a gigabyte as a replacement because the board was discontinued.

I'm using a Gigabyte motherboard and a Gigabyte graphics card in my current PC, and they've given me no problems yet. *touch wood*
Been using Gigabyte motherboards for years and find them very reliable
The way I see it, more manufacturers entering into the market will bring more innovative features and help drive prices down.
